I am just so grateful that you are here reading through this article. 

This just makes my heart so full.  So I just wanna say thanks. 

And today we’re talking about how to create engaging short form videos for marketing. 

As we all know, short form video isn’t going anywhere because short form video is everywhere right now.

So let’s count, we’ve got TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Clapper, Triller and then Lemon8. 

So you have ten social platforms. And so it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. 

And I have 8 things you can do to create engaging short form videos. 

So the first thing you wanna do in order to create great engaging videos is you gotta have good energy. 

You have to have good energy because nobody likes to sit around and watch paint dry. 

Let’s just be honest. 

If somebody is boring in their videos, you’re not enjoying them, and you’re not gonna watch, right?

We don’t do that on Netflix, on Hulu, on HBO. 

We don’t like doing that on a date.  

Okay, so number one, you wanna have some great energy. 

This doesn’t mean you have to be just like me. I have a lot of energy. I’ve always had, and so it’s just what I have.

And so everybody is not like me, but they’re not boring. 

So remember, you’ve got one to two seconds to capture somebody’s attention, and so you need to have some level of good energy in your videos. 

Number two of the things you wanna do in your videos, let’s just say that you are teaching, right now. 

I’m sitting up, I’m looking into the camera and I’m talking.

If I was creating a short form video and I’m teaching on these eight points. 

What I would do is I would have a bullet point text going over each point

So what does that mean? 

So when I first started out and I said whatever I said, once I got to point number one, good energy above my head, I would have the number one good energy.

And so it would appear and then it would disappear as I go over the point, good energy, and now we’re talking about bullet point text. 

So then it would change to number two over top of my head and they would say bullet point text.

And so that way people are able to follow along with each bullet point, right?

Because if you say, I’ve got eight amazing tips you need to know, then they’re gonna wanna write them down. 

Not everybody will write them down, but if it’s really good, people are gonna say, “wait, what?” 

And they’re gonna pause and they’re gonna wanna write down the bullet points. 

Some people will also put it in the comments section, just so you know.

The third thing you wanna do to create great short form videos is captions. 

Captions are everything. 

First, because not everyone can hear as well as you do. It’s called accessibility. I believe it is on Instagram where you can turn on certain things, where it will read certain things to people. 

For example, on Instagram, if you put an image post and you’re writing something in the caption, you can take that caption and you can put it in accessibility. 

And a person that may have a hard time hearing can tap a button and it will read the words that you put in accessibility, right?

And so the same thing goes for your captions. 

If you have the captions on screen, meaning you click the button on TikTok, Instagram, or you have used an app like CapCut or captions to actually write the captions on screen. 

Then you make it easy for people that need that for accessibility. 

The second thing is that 80% of people actually watch videos muted.

Think about it, the next time you’re on social media, you’re probably not gonna let every single thing you see play, you’re gonna unmute the thing that you wanna actually hear. 

Why? Because it’s a lot of stuff happening on social media and we don’t wanna scroll in here and there. 

No, it’s on mute. 

And if they can see what you’re talking about, they can see the captions and it’s what they actually wanna experience. 

Then they are more likely to actually unmute your video and actually watch it because now they’re like, “oh, this seems like something I will be interested in. Let me unmute” 

So you wanna add captions.  

And then number four is you wanna give people a reason to say “wow or nod their head” 

So when you are teaching a thing, when you’re showing a thing, or when you’re displaying whatever it is you’re doing, you wanna give people these moments of “Wow, or Oh my god, or Oh, really?”

You want them to go “Yes”. 

So you may have someone that’s doing a get ready with me. And I see how she or he put an outfit together and I’m like, “oh wow. Oh, I really like that” 

Or they’re given a fact about how you can cook something in the kitchen that you never thought that you could do or whatever, right?

Like I watched a video the other day where I did not know this was a thing about Trader Joe’s.

And apparently you can go to Trader Joe’s and if you wanna taste something, you can go to an employee and say, “Hey, I’m interested, I wanna taste this. I wanna see what this tastes like” 

An employee will then open up whatever the package is and let you taste it. 

And if you like it, then you can buy it. 

If you don’t, then you don’t have to. 

And I was just like, “I don’t understand.” 

Well, because when you open it then if you like it, you’re gonna buy it. 

Otherwise they would just give it to the employees to be able to have it in the back. 

And I was just like, “Wow” while watching that video. 

Now let’s get to number five. Number five is to give them a reason to want to share the content, which is very similar to number four, which is nodding and like wowing.

You want people to share your content, but the reason why people are going to share your content is because it was so good that they feel like other people need what it is you just said. 

They need to see what is happening in your videos. And when people share your content, that is how you are gonna reach new people.

And so when you’re creating pieces of content, you don’t have to make it like everybody wants to share everything, but the more of your content that people will want to share or save with other people, then the more likely you are to have repeat offenders watching your content. 

Also, the more likely you are to potentially go viral and the more likely you are to reach new people that may be interested in what it is that you have to offer. 

Number six is you can add B-roll. 

Now this is if you are shooting content and your camera roll and you have an editor editing your videos. 

So for me, for the longest time when I was doing short form videos and I had an editor, we were adding B-roll and some of the videos we continue to add B-roll and then some that we don’t like.

I know in our podcast and on our YouTube channel, we add little means and all that to make our videos a lot more engaging. 

And so you can do that if you want to. 

It’s not a requirement, but this is something that people enjoy as they’re watching your videos. 

They see something else cut in like B-roll into your video.

So that’s something that you can do if you can know if you know how to do it or if you have an editor, which brings me to my next point is number seven, add a joke or two. 

So if you’re listening to me in my podcast and you hear me talk about what I’m talking about. 

I’m also adding in a little bit of humor.

And that is me honestly, having fun. 

And so if you’re wanting people to enjoy your content, the best way is for you to actually enjoy your content. 

Because if you are enjoying it, other people are gonna enjoy it. 

I follow a guy on TikTok. His name is Keith. He’s a food critic. 

And he was reviewing this hot chicken in Houston, Texas.

And it was going from like each level to like super hot. 

And I have watched tons and tons of Keith’s videos. 

I really enjoy his content. 

And I was just really curious, like, “is this really gonna be really hot? What’s gonna happen?” 

And so as I watched him with that final piece, I was like, “I think this is gonna be bad.”

We all just love Keith. 

You are just like watching his demise with this chicken and him like adding ice cream to make it not be as hot. It was very enjoyable. 

But not only was he like eating the chicken, but he edited the video so well in a way that it just made it even more fun for us to watch.

I have watched it now multiple times already because I really enjoyed it. 

And so he adds humor and all that, and so, when it’s appropriate. 

I would encourage you to add a joke or two because if you’re enjoying your content, then that means other people will as well. 

And my final tip is use trends, but make them relatable.

You don’t have to use trends, but it is a way to create engaging videos on short form video because when you think about some of these sounds or some of these things that people do online. Typically, you would never take this sound or this thing and add it to this over here.

But doing so has caused people to experience videos in a way that they never have before. 

It’s just giving you this different type of experience. 

So there was this little boy on TikTok where I think he went to a state there or something and he really liked corn and somebody interviewed him.

He has a really country accent and he’s like, “it’s corn.” 

He kept calling it corn like he just loves corn. 

And he just went viral. 

But then people started adding music to the little boy. Another guy started singing with it like it became this whole thing on TikTok.

And so people started using that sound around something that had nothing to do with corn, nothing to do with little kids. 

And even Delta Airlines. They use that sound to talk about their planes. 

And so every time it’s said, it’s corn on screen. You saw the words, it’s planes and that’s just them bragging about their planes having a good time with their planes on TikTok.

And it just made us just love Delta in a way that we just never could have experienced him that way. 

And so the same thing goes for you. You can use humor and trends on TikTok or any other vertical video platform and talk about your business, talk about your product or service. 

And just in these creative ways because we all wanna be entertained. 

It’s just what life is and what we’re all used to. 

And you’re getting this huge opportunity to learn how to basically make Super Bowl commercials in 30 seconds or less. 

And you don’t have to pay a production crew a model or whatever.

You can learn this through the art of short form video. 

But the fastest and easiest way to learn this is by watching other people’s content. 

And so if you haven’t been binge watching content in the way as a marketer, as someone who can create content for their business, then I would strongly encourage you to think about that. 

To start looking at content in a way that is more engaging. 

That will just cause your audience to just love what they’re watching and be curious with you, aware of you and want more from you.

Tips for Creating Engaging Short Form Videos

We have all made mistakes with short form videos.

Like if I were to scroll back to my first videos on TikTok back in 2020, I would cringe. 

I hope nobody sees them. 

And I already know that you’ve got some videos out there and you’re like, “Oh God, just delete them”

But today I wanna talk to you about mistakes that you’re making in short form videos and how to correct them. 

So I do have a list of them. So let’s get into it. 

One of the first mistakes that you might be making in your short videos is not having a plan. 

Because a lot of times, we just get this idea, we grab our phones, and then we start recording and we haven’t really thought out a plan.

Because when we think about it from a business perspective, every single time we post a video, we’ve got a goal in mind. 

We’re trying to reach our target audience. We’re trying to convey a message and or we’re trying to get people to make a decision to follow us, opt into our email list or make a purchase. 

And so, before you actually start recording content, you’ve got to create a plan.

Why are you there? What is this video about? And what can people get from this video? What can they expect from your video? 

Because you’ve gotta convey all of that throughout the video, the beginning, the middle, and the ending. 

So first things first, before you shoot your video, get a plan. 

That doesn’t mean you gotta have this detailed script where you’re reading from a teleprompter like you are a newscaster. 

It just means you have a plan. 

Now, I have my seven points written out that I wanna talk about. Your girl has a plan. 

The second thing, the mistake that you might be making in your short form video is your video doesn’t have a hook.

The attention span of a person is short. 

It’s like the size of a turtle’s brain. It’s really small. 

And so when someone is scrolling on social media, you’ve got maybe a second and a half before they’re either gonna watch or scroll away. 

So you’ve gotta have this, what we call an opening hook and attention grabbing.  

A reason why someone is gonna stay and why they’re gonna watch that video.

And so a lot of times when we teach our clients, I tell them that the opening hook is the text you have on screen and then the first thing that you say.  

Now sometimes I say exactly what the text is on the screen. Other times I’m just trying to capture your attention with that. And then I’ve said something else which is still related.

So when you think about a hook, a hook could be the following: 

“Here are the five things they don’t want you to know” 

“Here are five websites that feel illegal to know” 

“The number one thing you’re not gonna believe, I’m gonna tell you” 

“Here’s a secret that I cannot believe I’m about to tell you”

Those types of things stop the scroll, right? 

Because people are scrolling and so what you’re gonna wanna do, you want to stop them from scrolling and so you have to have some type of opening hook. 

Doesn’t have to be clickbait or anything like that, but just giving people a reason to stop and watch your content. 

The third thing you gotta have in your video is that you’ve gotta have a call to action.

And a lot of times we just don’t right now. 

Listen, I’m not saying that in every single video, you have to save, follow me, grab the link in my bio.  

But your call to action could be Asking a question, “What do you think about this? Tell me what you think of the comics, or make sure you follow me or tell me what you are struggling with?”

You’re inviting people to take action with you right now. 

Of course, as a business, we want everybody to go and buy our products and services. 

But everybody isn’t ready to buy. Everybody isn’t ready to necessarily opt in, but they will take action if we ask them. 

Now, I’m not gonna say in every single video that I shoot vertically, that I’m always saying, click this, do this, do that.

But most times I am asking them to do something which could be just inviting them to ask another question in the comments. 

Asking them to share their feedback or I’m asking them to actually take action in terms of opting in or making a purchase. 

So you’re gonna wanna make sure that your video has a call to action. 

The fourth mistake that you’re making with short form video is that you don’t have a link in bio. 

So listen, if you’re on TikTok, it’s important to know you gotta have a thousand followers on a creator account in order to have a clickable link in your bio. 

So that’s the unfortunate part, but once you have access to that, you need to have some type of link in your bio. 

But listen not just a main website link.

Here’s what I believe. So I have a full website, which is www.keenyakelly.com. 

When you go there, there’s lots of stuff that’s there. But I don’t want you looking at all this stuff, I really want you focused on what I want you focused on.

So we have a link that we created that has our free tools, a quiz that has a TikTok mini course, an advanced course or something else. 

And so there’s also a video that walks them through “Here is what is on this page”

And the whole purpose of having that page is just to guide people through here’s what we have to offer and you can get this or that. 

And so we like to make it very clear versus them going to www.keenyakelly.com and seeing all of this stuff there getting lost in my images or getting lost in my divorce story or whatever. 

I’m literally just telling them what I want them to do with that clickable link in my bio. 

So also on TikTok, on my account, it says, I teach female coaches how to grow on TikTok without paid ads. 

And then I say, click below for TikTok tools. Why? Because I’m giving them a call to action in my bio so that they will click and do something in the bio.

The fifth mistake that you’re making is that you are looking at yourself on the screen and not looking into the camera.

So a lot of times it’s really uncomfortable for us to look into the camera lens because we can see ourselves on screen.

We wanna look and see if we look good, if our teeth look good. Do we have a booger in our noses? 

We wanna look at ourselves, but it makes the viewers feel awkward. 

So the biggest mistake that I see people making when they’re using video is that they’re continuing to look at themselves on screen and they’re not actually looking into the camera lens.

So you wanna make it a habit of learning to practice looking into the camera lens. 

Yes, you can see yourself? You can see all the things on the screen, but you have to choose to look at the camera lens. 

It is really awkward when someone is watching you look at yourself. This way they will scroll away. 

And the sixth mistake you’re making is low energy.

Now, I’m not saying you gotta have high energy like me, or that you have to be a Mexican jumping bee or the Energizer bunny, but you can’t be boring.  

Especially if you’re a coach, a consultant, and you’re trying to teach people and people are having a hard time watching you because you have no energy with you.

You’re not excited to be there. You can tell you’re not excited to be there. 

Nobody wants to watch a piece of content when a person is just as if they’re ready to go to bed.

That’s just not what people want to do. Because remember, we as marketers, we are the commercial to people’s entertainment.

So they’re scrolling, not looking for us, they’re scrolling, just looking for whatever it is they’re looking for, and then we create content that interrupts their scrolls. 

So you can’t have low energy, which brings me to my last and final point, which is you are not having fun.  

Again, I’m not saying you gotta dance or gotta be goofy, but when you’re creating content, it should look like you like being there.

It should look like you are enjoying creating this piece of content, whether you’re teaching something.  

Whatever you’re doing, you should just look like you’re enjoying yourself being there.

Because remember, people can watch so many different people. There’s so many people doing whatever it is that we all do. 

So when I think about it, when people hire me as a coach or consultant, they hire me for my knowledge and experience or whatever.

But they also hire me for what they expect to experience with me, right? 

They expect me to be excited, they expect me to be motivated and motivating to them. 

And so you have to look like you’re enjoying it. Again, it doesn’t mean you have to be animated or anything like me.

But you see, some content creators where they’re in front of their microphone and they’re just resting, but  you can tell they’re enjoying the conversation. 

It’s not this high but they’re enjoying it. 

If you feel like you’re not enjoying it, then people are not gonna enjoy it, and they’re not gonna be watching your videos.

Mistakes to Avoid in Short Form Video Marketing

We have all made mistakes with short form videos. Like if I were to scroll back to my first videos on TikTok back in 2020, I would cringe. I

Dating apps have changed the game for dating. 

I mean, you’ve got Bumble, Tinder, coffee Meets Bagel, Hinge, Match.com. eharmony.com, plenty of fish. 

There’s so many dating sites, dating apps out there. 

But what does God say about dating apps? 

Now I know, I don’t mean to make this all like deep and spiritual, but I think that when we are walking this like Christian walk, we get this opportunity to invite God into our dating life.

And so today let’s talk about dating apps. 

Now, I can’t say that I’m super excited to talk about dating apps because your girl over here is single, and God has a lot to say to me about dating apps.

So we all know that the Bible says that “it is not good that man should be alone” 

We also know what the Bible talks about, “and when a man finds a good thing, he obtains favor from the Lord and all that” Let’s just look up those scriptures as we always use scriptures.

All right, in Proverbs 18:22 “The man who finds a wife finds a treasure and he receives favor from the Lord”

I’ve never done this study before, but let’s do a quick study on the see. 

What does the Bible say about a woman looking for a husband? 

So Dr. Google says, “Is it wrong for a woman to look for a husband?” 

The Bible says that when a man finds a wife finds a good thing, does that mean a woman shouldn’t be looking for a husband? 

And so people on the internet are like, “We don’t know”

There’s not really a whole lot of Scripture. 

And the one scripture that somebody did post is First Corinthians 7:2. And it says, “But Paul says, but because of the temptation, the sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman with her own husband”

But it does not say that a woman should not go and look for a husband, right? It just says that a man will find a wife. 

I don’t really know the answer to that with God, but here is something that I know. 

We have the Bible, and the Bible says A, B, and C, but we also know that God is not dead. Jesus is not dead. The Holy Spirit is not dead. 

We get this opportunity to actually be like, “Okay, God, in the Bible, your Bible says A, B, and C, but it doesn’t say anything about me over here finding a husband or like putting myself out there to find a husband. What do you say?” 

So we get this opportunity where we can actually go to God and we can ask God like, “What is it that you feel about me going out there and finding me a husband? Like what are your thoughts on that?” 

And so the same way I have that is we get this opportunity to ask God, “how do you see dating apps?”

Because here’s the deal. 

So when you look at dating apps, it gives you this opportunity to set up a profile and you say who you are, all the things about you. 

And then you can set up your preferences. Like this is the kind of guy that I’m looking for. 

And so if I was on a dating app, I could set up those preferences and then those are the men that are gonna show up on my screen.

And then I could either swipe right and say I’m interested, or swipe left and say that I’m not interested. 

And then the same thing goes for us. 

When they’re looking for us, we show up and they either can swipe right or swipe left to us.

When I think about what God says about dating? I know what He says about dating apps for me now.

I have friends that have met their spouses on dating apps. 

I have a prophetic, powerful deliverance minister who met her husband on Skype. He connected with her, reached out to her. And she was like, “I don’t know who this is, what’s going on here?” 

But he pursued her. And when she went to God and went to her mentors in them, they were all like, “we are getting a yes from the Lord”

And so there was that on Skype. It wasn’t a dating site. 

And so here’s what happens for me. 

Every time I get on a dating app, usually it’s within a day, sometimes it’s within two days. 

I will go to sleep at night and then I will have a dream, and there usually will be a series of dreams. Back to back dreams where there’s confusion, there’s chaos, and somebody shows up from my past, a past relationship where I’m crying in the dream.

And when I literally wake. I am sad. I have very sad emotions about all those feelings and torment and trauma that I felt in that past relationship. 

So, here’s the deal. So I live in San Diego, and San Diego is only like 6% black. 

Now I date all men, right? But a man has to be used to dating a black woman to pursue me or whatever. 

And so in this town, I can’t say that there’s enough men that have dated black women. I can’t say that. 

And so I have not gone on a date. I’ve been here for two years and I have not acted out that one time and that’s okay. 

It’s not okay, but it’s okay. 

When I was getting on dating apps in San Diego, I was never connecting with anybody, meaning like nobody was inboxing me or whatever.

But when I would go to LA now, LA is like, there’s a lot of men that are black, white, Puerto Rican, Asian, and all that have dated black women and they’re there. 

They swipe, inbox talk, all the things when I’m in L.A. 

So I was in L.A. a couple weeks ago, and even though I know better, I downloaded a bumble, set up a profile, and immediately started getting hits.

But it was late at night and I’m going to sleep. 

Went to sleep that night. Woke up to a crazy dream, was so emotional about my ex-husband and me crying and all that stuff. 

And when I woke up, it just did not start off my day well. 

Now a couple months back, I had gotten back on the app again. 

Because I was just maybe.

And I had a series of three dreams where I’m like getting married and I can’t find the groom. I’m looking for the groom everywhere. Can’t find him. 

In the dream, I’m excited. My friends are there and they’re all excited, but we cannot find the groom. And I had like two or three other dreams about not being able to find the groom through that as well.

And so finally I just said, “Well, God, what is so wrong with dating apps?” 

He said, “Well, it’s not about something wrong with the dating apps. It’s something wrong with it for you.” 

And I said, “Well, what is wrong with it for me?” 

And he said, “Well, you’re not gonna meet your husband on a dating app. And then, if you keep going on these dating apps, they’re just gonna make you feel bad about yourself”

And I was like, “What do you mean?” 

He goes, “Well, if no one is pursuing you over time, it’s gonna make you feel like you’re not pretty. It’s gonna make you feel like you’re not good enough. You’re not wanted, you’re not desired, because nobody is doing anything”

And as much as I didn’t like that, it felt like a gentle love hug from God of being like,”I love you so much, that I don’t want you to have that experience” 

And so even though I have my moments where I wanna get on him, I get on him and get off from me. 

Ultimately I know that he’s saying, “This is just not good for you. This is hurting you more than it’s helping you” 

Right now, that does not mean that that is the case for everybody, that that is the case for you. 

But we love God and we want what God wants, and he wants us to have what he has for us.

Right? 

When we ask ourself the question of, “Does God like dating apps?” 

It’s really important for you! For you to ask him. Not in general, but for you. 

Because that’s what I had to do for myself. 

Some of my friends have met amazing people on dating apps and they’re amazing people on dating apps and He hasn’t given them red lights, but he gave me the red light for me. 

And so I feel like the smartest thing for you to do is just to ask Him how God feels about dating apps FOR YOU?

It’s all case by case. 

I remember one season of my life, especially right after I’d gone through divorce. 

I was on dating apps to get some comfort. 

I wanted to be desired. 

I wasn’t gonna do anything with any of these men, but I wanted to be desired and I wasn’t ready to be in a relationship.

So I was on them for the wrong reasons. I would’ve ended up hurting somebody. By me being there and not being ready to actually get into a relationship. 

Because if I got with a man, we fell in love and I wasn’t ready to commit, then that’s unfair for him because I wasn’t ready and I put myself out there in a place acting as if I was ready to be married.

And so that with me, I got off back then, and then now God’s like, “No, it’s not good for you because it’s just not what I have for you” 

Because we’re here in the series of dating, preparing for marriage and all that. 

I really want you to get in this habit of talking to God about everything.

Some people will say “it’s not that deep, it’s just a dating app” 

But it is that deep when you’re talking about lifelong commitment, right? 

When you’re talking about meeting somebody who could set you on the right path or the wrong path in your life. 

I always say I’m not mad at my ex-husband, but I’m like, “if I had not been with him for the time that I was with him, I could have been focused on all the things that I was focused on”

I was so focused on him and on us. And us creating together that I wasn’t continuously going after all the gifts and talents that I was given. 

I just wasn’t, and then I ended up with so much heartbreak, so much turmoil. 

I mean, just so much crazy stuff has happened in my life since ending that marriage, and some I don’t even talk about yet, but it really rocks you to your core.

And as you continue to heal, you start to reveal, “oh, this part isn’t healed yet” 

So I really want you to just give yourself the opportunity of asking God about it. Give himself the opportunity to be able to talk to you. 

Because He might say, “actually it is gonna be good for you and you should probably go and get on Plenty of fish, or you should go and get  Coffee Meets Bagel”

He may tell you that, right? 

Me? He’s saying NO. 

And so my job is to be obedient.  

So if you’re considering getting on the dating apps. I want you to just think about it. I want you to just talk to God about it. 

Don’t talk to friends, pastors, or whatever. Talk to God. He’s alive. He’s a key cares. And if it’s okay for you to be on, he’ll let you know.

Furthermore, going on a journey with God can prove to be one of the most amazing experiences of your life, but it can also prove to be a little confusing. 

And I want to walk alongside you and help you to not only fall more in love with Jesus than you are today, but truly discover all that lies within you.

Is it okay to use Dating Apps?

Dating apps have changed the game for dating. I mean, you’ve got Bumble, Tinder, coffee Meets Bagel, Hinge, Match.com. eharmony.com, plenty of fish. There’s so many dating sites, dating

Have you ever had super good intentions? 

You’ve got to work and you are ready for the day, and then you get to TikTok or you get to Facebook, or you get to Instagram and you start scrolling and next thing you know, you have been there for an entire hour. 

And you’re like, “where in the world? Has the time gone?”

I was supposed to be doing this and now I’m here. 

Today in this article, we are gonna talk about time management tips because I know if you are anything like me, you can get down the rabbit hole. 

I’m not even gonna lie and make this article like I am the master genius at this, but I will say that I do find myself getting a lot of things accomplished on the day when I am setting up these boundaries for myself. 

I don’t mean boundaries or keeping other people out. I’m talking about me, being focused on boundaries in myself. 

Boundaries away from me, and my phone and all the things. 

So if you’re somebody and you struggle with time management, especially as it pertains to your business, then today I want to assist you with that. 

I’ve got some time management tools, and let’s go ahead and talk about it.

So the first thing, which is the most important and which is why a lot of us get in trouble with our time, is you need to log off of social media during the day. 

I know you don’t want to hear it, but that is the number one thing that is keeping you from getting things done during the day.

It is Social Media. 

And it’s because our phones are always with us, right? 

Even if we can mute the thing out, we’ll get to scrolling and watching this and watching those who are commenting here and commenting there. 

On my phone, I don’t have notifications for any social media platform. 

ZERO. 

Not TikTok, not Instagram, not Facebook, nothing. 

So the only reason why my phone would actually light up during the day or I would get any kind of a notification is if somebody texts me or somebody calls me or it’s an alert to a meeting I’m getting ready to go into at 15 minutes. 

That’s it. 

And this is always. 

So it’s not just doing work hours. This is always. 

And what this has done is it has caused me to be off of social media during the daytime and it lets me get so much done. 

Because I run my own business, I create content and then I work with my clients and I, obviously, manage my team and that’s a lot of things to juggle in the workday. 

Let alone being messaged by TikTok and all the people.

And so I had to learn how to set my own boundaries and to keep from the notification sounds or the blinking screen. 

And so I log off social media during the daytime. 

Listen, ain’t nobody really messaging you on social media like that. 

If it’s an emergency, they’re gonna call you and text you because emergency people got your phone number.

Now the second thing you can do for time management is Time Blocking. 

Now what does that mean?

A lot of us get caught up in the squirrels, right? We can do this thing over here and then this thing over here.

Now your block of time may be different depending upon who you are and whatever. 

So yours could be that you’re like from 1:00 to 2:30. For 90 minutes, the only thing that you’re doing is that particular task.

You have it set and you’re like, “all right, it’s one o’clock. I’m going to do this task. And I’m gonna keep going until it’s 2:30” 

You can set an alarm to go off when it’s that time block, like 1:00 to 2:30. 

And at 2:30 you’re like, “Okay, I can go take a bathroom break, I can go walk, I can go grab lunch, I can go grab a drink” Or whatever it is you’re gonna go do.

But you knew that for that 90 minutes that you needed to focus on that particular task. That’s something that I did when I was writing my book, because I was trying to get this book done within a certain amount of time. 

And I just set my parameters like, “all right, I am going to write these many words by this time.”

And I was not allowed to be on my phone or anything. 

Listen, nobody was managing me but me. But I set these time blocks and I set these number of words that I had to complete. 

And it worked really well. 

I was able to get an entire book written.  

I think it was in three weeks because I was very intentional and very determined because I needed to get back to my business.

The third thing you can do is create a list of priorities. 

Now, this is something I do every single day. 

When I used to have a job, I used to get in trouble with my job because I was a great salesperson, but I was so unorganized. 

And one time my boss came into my office and she said, “Look, you’re a great salesperson but you’re very unorganized and it hurts the business when you’re not organized. You need to get a legal pad every day and you need to make a list of the things that you need to do”

And that was very foreign to me. 

Now a friend of mine, Shannon, was very good at that.

And so I just started trying to do this. 

And so when I started my business, I watched me go back to that same old, bad habit, highly disorganized. 

My clients are upset and all the things. 

So then I got incredibly organized with my legal pad. 

So now when I come into the office, before I ever get into work that day, if I know that there are urgent things that just came up for me that my assistant doesn’t know about, then I will send her a message in Slack. 

And I will say, “Hey, I have these four things that are urgent. Can you put this on my list of things and make them urgent today?”

Because I have this regular sheet that she sends me and says, “Hey, here’s your list of things that you need to do, but you told me to mark these four things urgently.”

And then as soon as I sit down at my desk, I am working on the four urgent things, and then working my way down for anything else that wasn’t urgent. 

That literally has saved my life. 

It saved my team, and everything is just so much more organized because there are these  priorities that I have, and I’ve been teaching my team that they need to do the exact same thing.

And then the last thing you can do is set an alarm to go off when you need to and finish important tasks. 

By tomorrow, I’m speaking at an event and I have to have my PowerPoint presentation done. 

I know that I usually procrastinate, but if this company was wanting my PowerPoint presentation by the end of day today, then the last thing I wanna do is to try to get that thing done by five o’clock or four o’clock whenever, what time I’m leaving the office.

My goal is to be like, “All right, hold on. I’m gonna do this task over here, and then I’m gonna finish this by three o’clock because I won’t leave the office by 3:30.” 

And so I will sit and go, “okay, I will turn off all notifications, even notifications for Slack.” 

And I will sit down and I will focus 100% on the thing that I need to accomplish, and I will set an alarm to get that done. 

And then on my phone, if it’s a timer or whatever, I can see what is happening on my phone and it’s causing me to stay focused to get the thing done. 

I know that, possibly when you’re reading this, you may feel like I’m calling you a child or whatever. 

That you have to put these things in place. 

But the truth is if you are having a hard time managing your time, and you wanna get good at managing your time and you’re not good at it, then you have to put things in place that help you to be more organized. 

That helps you to have boundaries and restrictions on yourself so that you can get things done. 

There is nothing like knowing that somebody’s coming over for dinner at seven o’clock and you’re like, “All right, there’s a possibility that they show up at 6:30, I don’t get off until five” 

Let’s say on Friday they coming over, you’re like, “I’m gonna start cleaning on Wednesday, cleaning a little bit on Thursday, and then only the smidget left on Friday” 

Because you know your friend and they’re probably gonna show up half an hour early because if you know yourself and you know that you’re not gonna be able to get it all done at the last minute, then you can plan. 

Like for me, I am headed to Europe in June for a speaking engagement. 

And then I’m moving from where I currently live in San Diego into another place. 

And so I’m like, “All right, the last thing I wanna do is come back from Europe, try to pack up my whole house when it’s like my birthday”

Last month, I ordered a whole set of boxes from Amazon and I got the tape and everything. 

And I said, “All right, I am gonna start packing every weekend” 

It’s not winter anymore here, I can start packing my clothes, my boots, and then just packing all this stuff that I know that I’m not going to wear.

And I can start going through underneath my cabinets and determining like, “Do I use these products anymore? What is outdated?” 

And then just slowly, throwing out things and packing up the closets of stuff that is just there that I’m not gonna use right now. 

And the next thing you know, when I get ready to go to Europe, my whole house is almost packed.

That is my plan and that’s why I bought my boxes early because I know I do not wanna do this at the last minute. 

Something always comes up in life is just what happens. And for me to set myself up for success and to manage my time. 

I’m starting that process right now.

Tips for how to manage your time

Have you ever had super good intentions?  You’ve got to work and you are ready for the day, and then you get to TikTok or you get to Facebook,

One of the things that I used to believe about making more money in my business was that I had to get brand new customers.

That I always had to fill my pipeline with new customers in order to make more money.

But that’s not actually the case now.

It is important to constantly have leads that are coming into your business, but that is not the only way to be able to make more money.

In this article, we are talking about strategies to become more profitable in your business because I don’t know about you guys, it costs a lot of money to run a business.

You gotta pay yourself.

You gotta pay all the people for the softwares and the ads.

Then if you have contractors or people that work for you, there’s some expenses that go along with running a business.

And the only way to become more profitable is that you have to have more money coming in and less money going out.

If you wanna be more profitable, then you have to increase the amount of money that is coming in and decrease the amount of money that is going out.

I wanna walk you through some of the things that I have learned and that we have implemented and still are implementing in my business in order to become profitable.

So how can you increase your profits and your business?

Now, these are not in any specific order, but these are the things that I wrote down.

So one of the things that you can do in order to make more money is to create a suite of products.

What does that mean?

When I first started out, especially when I navigated into the TikTok marketing space, I only had one offer, and that is my course, Monetize the Tok.

And if that wasn’t doing as much as I wanted it to do, then I had to figure out ways to keep selling and selling that product. 

Or we were doing live launches and we still do live launches, but when we were only doing that, we were 100% dependent upon a launch.

Like if we didn’t make enough money in that launch, then we were kind of messed up until we had that next launch.

And so I had to learn how to actually create  a suite of products.

So right now in our business, we have a lot of different things that we can offer to help our customers.

We have, where I can do one-on-one, we have some group live classes, and we have digital courses that are automated.

We have the live launch course, and then as a company we launched TikTok account management services.

We are actually managing TikTok accounts for our clients, and then we’re gonna be adding Facebook reels, LinkedIn shorts, Instagram reels and YouTube shorts to manage our clients. 

And so that is our way of adding more revenue by having a suite of different products.

Now, when you first start out, of course you don’t wanna have to try to do all these products at one time.

You wanna start out with one and then perfect that, and then you could do another and perfect that, and then you could do another.

But this is just a way for you to increase your profits.

The second thing I wrote down here is that you wanna have upsells.

Now what does that mean?

That means, we have a digital course, which is called Monetize the Talk.

If someone purchases Monetize the Tok for $597, we have an upsell where someone can then purchase an hour of my time.

So that course is automated by itself, but we have an upsell.

Or they can click and it will take them to where they can purchase an hour of my time as well.

Now that is something that is called an order bump.

And we could talk about that a little bit in another article.

But you wanna have that as an option because you know, sometimes people will come along and they come to buy this one thing.

And then when they’re getting ready to check out to get that one thing and you offer them the second thing, now guess what? They say, well, I want that too.

I went to vistaprint.com to get these little note cards cause I wanted to write handwritten notes to people with my name on them.

And when I was checking out it said you get envelopes for free, but also, you can get self-addressed envelopes, self-addressed stickers for your envelopes.

And I thought that’s great!

They keep me from having to write my name on all these different things. And it was a order bump. I bought the next thing.

And they offered me a couple other things, but I didn’t really want that.

But because they made it an option. I made the purchase.

And so you wanna have these upsells with people with your products.

That way if a person is interested in buying multiple things from you that they can because you offered it.

The third thing you can do to make more money in your business is offering down sales.

What is a down sell?

Down sale is, let’s just say we have my course Monetize the Tok, the automated portion, which is $597.

Let’s just say we make an offer to a person on an email or sales page or whatever, and the person goes to check out and they’re not gonna buy it.

We can have a down sell that pops up, right where it offers them.

It may not offer them that specific course, but this down sell will offer them our mini course, which is called a Create on TikTok, and it’s only $150.

And so it’s like we offered them this at $597. They didn’t take it.

And so then this down sell came.

And so now this means that you’re gonna have to have your systems, your processes, and all these things kind of automated.

But just think about that, people come all the time and they see a thing, and then sometimes for whatever reason, they don’t make the purchase.

Sometimes it’s money and sometimes they’re just not ready to make the purchase.

But we have these down sales and we’re, they’re like, “Oh, so I wasn’t ready to spend 597, but I can definitely spend 150.”

Boom, done.

Right now, you’ve become profitable in a way where you wouldn’t have made the sale because the person wasn’t ready to purchase the first product.

The fourth thing you wanna offer to become more profitable is you wanna have an offer bundle.

What does that mean?

That means that for example, let’s just say that I have Monetize the Tok for $597, and then I have a one-on-one call with me.

And then I have some templates.

Normally, it would be $597to $750, and then I think it’s like $36 or something like that.

And in total, it’s gonna be $1,300. A little bit over $1,300. Andalmost $1,400.

And instead of them getting it a la carte at $1400, I can say, “well, this is normally $1,400, but if you invest $1,000, you’re gonna save $400”

That’s hard to pass up. Especially if they want all three.

They’re not sure.

I’m not telling you to do a major discount, kind of like what I just did with that offer.

But when you offer a bundle, you’re just taking a little bit off of each thing and then now you’ve upsold where somebody was just gonna buy the one or they were gonna buy the two, and then now they bought the three because they got it in a bundle.

We get bundles all the time, it’s like you go to the grocery store and you plan on buying one pack of whatever, and they say, but if you buy five, you’ll get the sixth one for free.

You weren’t planning on having six bags of Lays potato chips in your house, but you’re like, “Well, it’s gonna be a big discount if I just go ahead and get it.”

We’ve all been there.

Whatever your thing is that you saw Kroger, Vons, Ralphs, H.E.B. whatever you’ve been to, we’ve all been there.

And so you can, you can offer bundles.

Now the fifth thing that you can offer is you can offer group coaching programs.

You can offer group coaching programs especially when I first started out, I was doing a lot of one-on-one, but our time is limited.

There’s only so many people you can talk to in a day, and there’s only so much energy and creative brain space that you have in a day.

So you can’t work with too many people in a day.

So let’s just say my, my hourly rate is $750. And that’s for an hour.

But what if I took that down to, let’s just say $300.

For a group coaching program, it’s four weeks.

It’s four hours. And they pay $300 each.

And I was able to sell it to 50 people.

Like it’s the same for hours. Except it’s in a group experience.

And then you can offer them a Facebook community where you’re with them every single day. Over the next 30 days, you made way more per hour by offering a group coaching experience. 

Especially if you set it up to where it’s a really good experience.

So I have a group of people right now going through a program which is called Implement, where I’m helping them build their sales funnels and all those types of things for one particular offer.

On night one, it was supposed to be an hour, but it was actually two hours. Cause I wanted to over give.

But each person only paid $200 to be there. But they got so much out of the call because I worked with each individual person.

I gave them what they needed.

But if they kept listening to me talk to the other people, they got so much during that time because they’re watching me talk to other people.

And then as they watched me talk to other people, in the Facebook group, they’re gonna be like, “Oh my God. I didn’t know I needed that, that and that. But I got it because she was talking to them.”

But I was able to become more profitable because in the same amount of time I’m spending, instead of spending it with one person, I’m spending it with a group of people and we’ve made more.

The last thing is the way to become more profitable is that you have to watch where you are spending your money. 

You gotta watch where you’re spending your money.

And I’ll give you an example.

So we have been with GoDaddy for years because that’s the only hosting platform that I was familiar with.

I didn’t wanna go through the hassle of trying to move from GoDaddy to somewhere else.

But GoDaddy finally upset me.

One of the ladies hung up on me and I said, “Enough is enough.”

And we were spending so much money with GoDaddy. So much money with them, like every month, every quarter. It was so much money.

I posted on TikTok and they were like, you should go to Hostinger or SiteGround. And a bunch of people said the same thing.

So I’d sent it to my tech person and said, “Can you look into Hostinger and SiteGround?”

And when we looked at them both, she was like, “Well, you can move everything from GoDaddy for $230.”

And that’ll last for four years, like a total for four years.

And I was like, “You mean SSL, firewall? Like everything like that for four years.”

And she’s like, “Yeah.”

And if I calculated how much I spent with GoDaddy per year, I owe Hostinger like my next, my first child. Because I’m amazed.

So the amount of money that we’re saving on moving is phenomenal.

Then we had someone who was managing my podcast for me, loved her, very sweet, but she wasn’t helping me grow.

She wasn’t giving me any growth strategies and we were paying a thousand dollars a month.

For one podcast, and we have two, the Kennya Kelly podcast and the You, Me, and Jesus podcast.

So I looked around to see who we could find, and now we have somebody else.

I think it is like $450 a month for two podcasts.

And we already have all the growth strategies that we’re just implementing.

We just saved so much money by finding someone else, and we’re teaching that person how it is that we do what we do.

So that way we’re not getting any less quality.

It’s just we’re just saving money.

So those are the ways that you can make sure that your business can be more profitable.

It doesn’t mean you need to implement all of them or all of them right now.

But you at least wanna start with a couple.

Strategies to become more profitable

One of the things that I used to believe about making more money in my business was that I had to get brand new customers. That I always had

We are in a series where we are talking about what to do with your singleness.

Like preparing for marriage and all the things.

I know some of you guys are like, “Are you dating somebody?”

No. 

At the time of this recording, I am not dating someone.

But it’s just something that has been on my heart  that I’ve wanted to talk about.

In this article, we’re talking about preparing for marriage, but specifically today’s topic is what to do with your singleness.

So when we think about going from single to marry, a lot of times we, me included, we’re trying to speed up that season.

We’re trying to speed up that process.

Like getting on all the dating apps, me included, and trying to speed up that process.

But not actually taking stock in what is happening right now?

What is it that I could be doing right now in this season?

What is it that God is trying to teach me?

What is happening in this season?

Me and my best friend, we’ve been talking about this a lot because I’ve been going through a lot of the different health challenges and different things have been going on, and I’ve just really been talking to her about like, “Oh, you know what, like it would be great to heal from what I’m dealing with before I get married because it’s just certain things or whatever, right?”

This is kind of what I’m doing in my single season.

But specifically today, I wanted to tell you about five of the things that I feel like you could be doing while you were single.

And a lot of these things are what I’m in the process.

I can’t say that I am going hard after all right now, but I am trying.

One of the things that you wanna do in your single season is you wanna be going after your God-given purpose.

That’s a given right now.

I feel like a lot of times we don’t actually know what that is.

We are doing whatever it is that we are doing.

We go to whatever church we go to, we may be doing whatever.

I don’t really see it in a choir, or you’re serving at children’s church or women’s ministry, or men’s ministry, whatever.

Which are all amazing.

But I also think it’s really important to really sit with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and let them help identify what you are uniquely called to do.

Now, it’s been a journey for me to know and understand what that is for me.

But when I think about on a regular basis, what brings me joy, what brings other people joy, and in what ways do I really impact people the most, speaking.

I cannot say I’ve always loved to speak.

I can’t say I’ve always loved the sound of my voice or I can’t say that I always feel like I have something to say.

But when I say things, I oftentimes will have people come to me and say, you’re just so anointed and so gifted to speak.

I’m always like, “Really?”

I’m on stage and I’ve done a talk about business or whatever, and then people come to me and say these things.

And then when I think about it, sometimes when I’m teaching or preaching from a Christian ministry standpoint, I see the impact that I’m able to have on people, especially when I’m like surrendered to God and not in my flesh, how it becomes a blessing to people.

And so I’ve identified that.

I have been on this journey of trying to be like, “Okay, this is my God-given gifting, I’ve gotta cultivate this, I’ve gotta develop this, I’ve gotta get better at this and I’ve gotta get mentoring around this. So I can continue doing what it is that God has called me to do.”

While I’m in my single season or just in general, because even when he does come along, I still have the calling on my life without him.

There’ll be things that God wants us to do together.

But before I ever met him or ever knew him, I always had a calling on my life.

And so it’s important for me to be going after my God-given purpose.

The second thing you could be doing in your single season is actually dating to see what you’re looking for.

I’m not talking about you going on dates with a million guys and you always swiping right, swiping left, or sleeping with people.

I’m not saying any of that stuff, but what I am saying is this, a lot of times we as women, we are thinking about Prince Charming.

He’s gonna rescue me. All of my problems are gonna be solved when he comes along.

That ain’t true because he’s a person. He’s a human.

And she is human too. If you’re a man.

These are humans. These are people with awesomeness and then not so awesomeness.

These are people that come with baggage.

These are people that come with their own expectations, their own complexities, their own relationship with the Lord.

They have their own path.

They all come with stuff and we don’t really know what it is that we’re looking for that or when it shows.

I remember this one time I was at a party, it was a bunch of Christian people at this party.

And like I was meeting people, hugging people saying, “Hey, what’s up? What’s up, what’s up?”

And then I met this guy and I hugged him and I was just like, “Woo. Wow. What was that?”

So I have this thing where I can sense things and I’m learning how to cultivate that. And when I hugged him, I was just like, wow. What is that?

And so I went back to him and said, “Who are you again?” 

He told me his name.

And I was just like, “Dude, you got quite the father’s heart on you.”

I could feel the love of God coming off of this man.

It was so strong. I was in awe of him and just what he carried.

And I remember going back home that night and just writing in my journal, “I want something like that.”

Doesn’t mean it’s him.

But it was just that feeling of safety I had never ever felt that on a man before in my life, and I felt it on that man.

I was like, “Check, please!”

I know some y’all like, what happened with that guy?

He had pluses and minuses and when I asked God about him, God was just like, “No, he’s not the one.”

But that thing you felt on him is something you need to add to your list.

Then there was a man that I met and he was, everybody loves him. He’s so giving and all.

And I was like, “I want that.

So it’s just these things about men that I just would not realize that exists in a man until I met a man like that.

I recently met a man, I’m not dating him, and he is a man that says “I don’t wanna kiss till I get to the altar because I don’t wanna have sex until getting married.”

“I’ve already been there, been there, done that. I’m trying to keep myself and get to the altar.”

I was like, “Yes, please!”

Because that’s what I’ve been telling God. I wanna do it. I wanna kiss, I want all that. But if this dude kisses me, it’s over. Like it’s Finito.

But I heard him say that, I was like, “They do exist.”

Handsome, black, all that.

He doesn’t have to be black. But this guy was handsome, black, and successful.

I was like, “They do exist.” Wrote that down.

So you can actually be dating and connecting with men and people to see what it is you actually are looking for.

The third thing you could be doing while you’re single is starting a new hobby.

I know it sounds crazy, but just think about it.

You work all day and then come home and sit in front of a TV.

That’s what a lot of us do. That’s what I’m doing right now.

But what we actually could be doing is starting a new hobby, finding something fun to do with ourselves or with other people.

So last year I started swimming lessons again at the pool, at my apartment complex.

And while it was scary and it can be scary, it has become freeing because now when I look at the water, I’m not as scared as I was a year ago.

Because I went on vacation to Mexico for like, three weeks and I didn’t get in the water cuz I was so afraid.

I mean it is crazy, but I’m just telling you, I went on vacation, didn’t get in the water. Crazy.

I don’t wanna be that way.

I lived at the beach basically here in San Diego and I want to go and do these things and when I go on vacation, I wanna get in the water.

Everybody said they’re gonna go snorkeling. I wanna go snorkeling, I wanna go swim with the fishes.

I wanna do all these things that people do.

And so in order to do that, I had to learn how to swim and so we could start a new hobby.

So I’m actually getting ready to move from where I live in Northern San Diego to the inner city and its apartment complex, it actually has a bowling alley.

You’re like, “This is bougie.”

This apartment complex costs a lot less than where I live right now.

I’m kind of downgrading in a beautiful way and I’m excited about it.

And they got a bowling alley. One of the things I could do is really learn how to bowl well.

I think they also have a foosball table. I think they have a pool table.

These are some of the things that I can start doing just to have a fun hobby.

Doesn’t mean I’m gonna do them every day or every week, but just a new hobby.

The fourth thing you can do is you can work on some goals.

I’m not saying that these goals have to be to lose weight.

You can if you want to, one of my goals was to learn how to do my makeup, and then my second goal was to learn how to style my clothing.

And so I had been on this journey. I took two classes by a makeup artist teaching me the basics of getting started with my makeup.

Then I started playing around with clothing, buying lots of pieces of clothing.

And then people I know started buying little things and I’ve been slowly learning how to put all these different pieces together.

While it can be scary at times, it could also be really fun.

Last week I spoke in LA at a conference and I was trying to decide what I was gonna wear on stage.

And I was like, “Here is this shirt that I had bought a while ago. I wanna wear this shirt.”

Because right now I have to have surgery on my stomach. I have something which you call ’em things fibroid, in my uterus.

So it makes my stomach sit out really far, like eight-months-pregnant far.

And so I was like, “Okay, I wanna hide that a little bit. I’m gonna wear that shirt.” And I said, “What bottoms am I gonna wear?”

So I ended up bringing a bunch of bottoms and I’m just like, “Okay, I think I’m gonna wear this shirt with this skirt, with these shoes or whatever.” And I chose the outfit.

And when I got on stage, I had all these people just complimenting my outfit.

When I posted on social media, everybody was complimenting my outfit.

But the only reason why I could do that outfit was because I decided that I want that.

One of my goals was gonna be, to learn how to style my own clothing so that way I didn’t have to hire a fashion stylist or whatever, but that I could learn how to do that myself.

And for me, it is becoming so fun when I put things together for myself and then I go out and I meet people and they’re just like, “Oh, I love your outfit.” And in my mind, I’m like, “Yes!!”

But it tells me that I did good.

And so now the last thing you can do  while you’re single is you can work on yourself.

I’m always talking about working on yourself.

Because nobody’s perfect.

We all come into life with whatever.

I’ve been going through so much intensive therapy and asking myself, “Why do I think this? Why do I feel this?”

 The more that I have been in therapy, all this old trauma has started coming up from my childhood, because when I went to therapy after divorce, my therapist was like, “Oh, you don’t remember your childhood at all? Like, were you molested? No. Were you this? No.”

She was just like, “There was something about your, your childhood that was traumatized and that caused you to black out your childhood.”

And so I kept trying to remember my childhood and as I continued just going through things like intensive therapy, deliverance and EMDR therapy, I started to pick up the pieces of my childhood.

And again, I wasn’t molested or anything like that, but my childhood was very chaotic and very traumatizing.

As I am becoming more aware of that. I am also becoming more aware of why I think the way that I think, why I get triggered, the way that I get triggered. Why do I get so anxious?

I’m becoming way more aware.

I don’t really like what I’m now becoming aware of.

But I’m really glad that I’m aware of it because the more I am aware of it, the more I can learn, the more that I can heal and I can grow and then get and mature in the ways that I haven’t been able to until all of this stuff really came about.

And I know that sounds really scary.

A lot of us, we don’t really wanna dig back into those deep, dark, nasty places.

But if we don’t do it, we find ourselves stuck in these old ways and we can’t figure out why we’re there.

And so while you’re single, you could be working on these things.

That’s like me, I don’t like all the stuff that I’m dealing with.

I don’t like all the stuff that I have to grow from and heal from right now.

But I am glad that I’m single because these are certain things that I don’t have to bring to the relationship.

Like with what’s happening in my uterus, my doctor was like, “Well, if you were engaging in sexual activity, this would actually be really painful for you and you probably wouldn’t do it.”

And so I said, “Oh, So, because I get to have this surgery before I get married, I’m not gonna have to deprive my spouse of intimacy in that type of way because the surgery will be done.”

So if I was with somebody now and I was married, we wouldn’t be able to engage in sexual activity because of what’s going on in my body right now.

It would be extremely painful for me to be able to do that.

But I get to have surgery, heal, and then meet someone whenever God says.

But this is me choosing to work on myself.

I know this was like a big full disclosure, but the whole point of me sharing this is because the same thing I’m teaching and I’m preaching is what I’m doing in my own life.

I’m not telling you anything that I’m not doing. I’m not saying, “Oh, I’ve done it,”

I’m on the journey too.

What to do with your singleness

We are in a series where we are talking about what to do with your singleness. Like preparing for marriage and all the things. I know some of you

If you don’t have any systems in your business, “oh my God, what are you doing?”

Now, I know I’m saying this now, but years ago, I ain’t had no systems.

So who am I to be condemning you about systems?

But seriously?

If you do not have systems in place in your business, it’s going to be really challenging to run your business, but also to grow your business.

Because here’s what I have learned over the years through the hard way, is that if I know everything and if I’m responsible for everything, nobody can do anything without me, then that means I am always working.

I started a business to have time and financial freedom, and that meant I needed some.

In this article we are talking about what systems do you need today to have a successful business?

 

I wanna walk you through eight of the different systems and tools that we use in my business in order to have success.

So they’re not gonna be in any particular order.

I knew that we’ve made lots and lots and lots of money in my company and when I was talking to somebody about how to grow my business, he said, “You’ve gotta get an assistant.”

And as soon as I started the process of trying to find an assistant, he said, “But you also need to have systems and processes in your business, or your assistant is going to be so frustrated, so confused in all the things that you’ve gotta give him or her. What they need.”

And honestly, that was really hard.

It’s been a year now since we’ve been doing this, and so now  I have a little bit more experience to share, our process.

Now, obviously in a year I may have some different recommendations for systems, but today this is where we are.

So the first thing that I wrote down here is payroll.

You have to have a system to pay your people, and here is what we did at first.

So we found everybody on upwork.com, and so we were constantly paying people through upwork.com until one day I realized, “Oh, not only is Upwork taking 20% of their money, But Upwork is also charging us even more money to be able to pay them.”

And so we just kind of got to the point where we were like, “Woo, we’re spending a lot of money on Upwork fees. We need to hire these people onto our own system.”

That way we’re not spending all this money every single time we’re paying somebody.

And so we learned about a tool called Gusto.

Gusto allows you to hire people, whether it’s in the US, in different countries, and you can pay everybody all at the same time.

Now we know in our company, everybody gets paid every other Friday.

So Friday morning I have this link from my assistant of everybody’s how much time they work that week and the hours that they get paid.

I literally just go into Gusto and I type in the hours and then boom, it’s automatically taken out of my account.

And then it’s at the end of the year when it’s tax time, I get all these documents back so that I’m able to know what it is that I’m doing with my taxes.

It gives me peace of mind knowing when they click, I know exactly what to do.

But also for my team members, they have the confidence that they’re gonna get paid because they do what they do and then we  always pay.

And so if their country or their bank has any kind of issues or if Gusto has any kind of payroll issues or whatever, notifications go out.

So there was a time when something had happened between Gusto payroll and people getting paid.

Gusto sent me an email and it said, “Hey, payroll’s gonna be delayed by two days because of something.”

And so I screenshot that and I send it to all of my employees and say, “This just came from Gusto.”

That way they weren’t wondering if ,”she is gonna be paying us or not?”

 

But they could see that it was a Gusto issue.

But also if somebody on my team switches banking accounts and they can’t pay them because of whatever’s going on. It sends me a notification to notify that person, “Hey, don’t forget to update your bank account.”

And so it’s a really great system and tool.

It will do a lot of things for you. 

So I would highly recommend you look into that for payroll.

The second tool that we use is time tracking. And it’s called Toggle.

Toggle allows everybody to log in, like when they came into work, when they went to lunch, when they came back in, and then when they logged off. Period.

Then at the end of the two weeks, my assistant sends me this little Excel spreadsheet and I have everybody’s names.

Here’s the hours that they work, and then we just plug it into Gusto and it’s free.

We’re not paying anything right now to use Toggle.

It’s a great way to do time tracking.

Now, again, this is gonna be very beneficial for you if you have an assistant.

She or he can be a virtual assistant because mine is in the Philippines.

It’s online, so they have access to everything so that you can onboard them.

It’s a whole easy system using Toggle.

The third thing you wanna have is some type of team communication tool.

Our communication tool of choice is Slack.

So it’s not cheap. But we use Slack and it has every single contractor that we work with.

So when we’re having back to back conversations with each other. And if we’re having small group conversations, it’s a really great tool.

So I have a Slack where it’s just me and my assistant.

I have Slack with me and my assistant and her assistant.

Then we have the main channel where I can send a message to everybody.

We have different categories, like here are ideas for content and we’re constantly dumping ideas for content inside of this little channel where I can pull from, our team can pull from. 

And when we’re coming up with social media, you can send files, you can send links, you can send videos.

It’s really, easy to be able to talk to everybody all at one time.

The lady who does all the tech work for us, I will always have a conversation between her and my assistant and it’s just easy.

She’s in India. While my assistant’s in the Philippines.

It’s just this a great easy way to have communication.

Again, a year ago I did not have any of these things, but all of this has completely changed my life.

I’ve been on this journey of life, health, and doctor’s visits, and have that surgery soon and like I can be sitting in the doctor’s office waiting to be seen, cuz your appointment is eight o’clock and then it’s like 8:37, haven’t been seen yet.

Y’all know exactly what I’m talking about.

I can literally be on Slack just talking to them.

They can send me a link to Google Drive, check this.

All this stuff can happen through using Slack.

The fourth tool you wanna use is maybe a social media management tool.

At this point we have a lot of different feelings about social media management tools because all of the apps really want you posting content natively on the platform.

That’s what they want.

They want you logging into Instagram, logging into TikTok and YouTube, Facebook, and actually hitting posts directly from the app.

And so as much as we want to use all the tools out there, like a Gore Post later, Metricool, Hootsuite, and all of them, the platforms don’t want that.

But if you’re like,“I need to be able to schedule this stuff and get away from it and not have to be around it.”

Then you wanna get some type of social media scheduling tool, and the ones that I like the most are Later and Metricool.

The fifth thing you wanna have is you wanna have your payment processors.

There are people out there that still only send PayPal invoices that still only send through Zelle that still only say, pay me through the cash app, or here’s my email for PayPal.

I’m not saying those are bad, but what I am saying is that you want some automated type of thing.

And so we have it to where when people are buying our products and services, they can pay through credit card, they can pay through PayPal, they can pay through Stripe.

That way we’re able to generate the money we wanna generate.

Now, eventually as we are making even more money per transaction, we will probably have a different tool that will take out less money from us when it comes in.

Cuz right now PayPal takes what it takes, Stripe takes what it takes.

It’s a lot of money that gets taken.

And so eventually we’re gonna wanna have more control over that and spend, give less money to all these payment processor places or whatever.

So you wanna make sure that you’re starting to use some type of processor and not send me a cash app because you just don’t wanna do that.

You want people to be able to enter their credit card information in pay through PayPal, pay through something like that.

The next thing you wanna have is you wanna have some type of project management system where your team can go, “Here’s their projects and here’s what they need to get done.”

So the system that we are currently using is ClickUp.

Now, the interesting thing is that ClickUp doesn’t work for me the way that my brain works. Like I have to be able to see it all.

And so my assistant and everybody is working in ClickUp with their task, and then my assistant, just every day there’s this sheet and this sheet shows me here’s all the things that I need to do for the day or for the week, and here’s what’s urgent.

And I’m able to knock things out a lot easier.

But every time I had to go to ClickUp, I wasn’t getting anything done.

But my team was doing a great job with using ClickUp. So, and then what that allows is that, it allows one person to enter in everybody’s task and ClickUp, assign them the tasks, and then you’re off to the races.

So ClickUp does a lot of different things. We’re giving people a task, it’s like a Zapier type thing. It’s a whole thing of what can happen when you use click up.

So my whole team uses it. I personally just use a sheet because of the way that my brain functions.

The last two systems you wanna have are email marketing system and a lead capture system.

So what do I mean by that?

We all know that one of the things that I teach is social media marketing, especially with TikTok and short form video.

But I always tell people that we don’t stop there.

We don’t just focus on how we get to a 100,000  followers, 200,000 followers, a million followers. No.

We focused on how we can get in front of a hundred thousand people or whatever, get them to say, I want more from you, and then get them off of social media onto our email list so we can have complete and full control.

Right now so many people are nervous about the potential of a TikTok band.

And now some of these people have millions upon millions upon millions of followers, and they have no control.

If the TikTok got banned, they would lose a million followers or however many they’ve got.

But if they have been focusing on getting people off of TikTok or social media onto their email list, they wouldn’t be as anxious about it because they would have more control.

So we make sure that we have a system that allows people to move from social media. And so our email system is Kartra.

But what we also do with Kartra is not only do we send emails and capture emails, but we also host our courses there.

So if you’re someone and you purchase our Monetize Talk program, it’s in there.

If you’ve purchased a webinar from us and it’s on replay, you’re actually logging into Kartra because it is such an easy way.to be able to put our products there, you’re able to log into and you’re able to watch at your leisure.

We have that system that allows people to opt in and then get emails from us.

Now, when we are usually building out some type of offer, let’s just say a free offer.

Typically what’s happening with us is that we have our page that we design is typically on WordPress.

Then we have the lead capture with Kartra. Then usually we’re using Zapier.

And Zapier is allowing us to zap in people from the elite, from the email, the email submit form into Kartra.

And it’s an easy, easy tool that’s allowing for that to really, really, really happen.

I know that it’s a lot. When I said, with all these systems.

But again the system you need are payroll system, time tracking, team communication, social media management tool, payment processor, project management, email marketing and lead capture.

You don’t have to start with all of them.

But if you’re gonna grow and you’re gonna have an assistant, then you’re gotta have your system for creating processes.

You’ve gotta have your system for communicating with her or him.

Then as you add more team members, then you’ve gotta have systems for file sharing and all that.

I didn’t even mention that. We use  Dropbox to be able to house all of our videos and some of our photos and stuff.

And then there’s things in Google Drive that we house.

We have all these different tools that we use, but they work really, really, really well with our team for everything to be systematized and automated.

So I, as a CEO, can focus on running a company and working with my clients.

What systems do you need today?

If you don’t have any systems in your business, “oh my God, what are you doing?” Now, I know I’m saying this now, but years ago, I ain’t had

Having success in your business or even in your life is gonna take a couple of different things.

And a lot of times, what we do is we want a thing, like, I want to lose weight, I wanna make a bunch of money, I wanna have a great relationship. I wanna have whatever those things are. 

But I think that sometimes we’re not really looking what is it that we’re actually doing to have that?

And in this article I’m gonna tell you about the three things that I feel like is holding you back from having success in your business.

But I’m not just gonna tell you what’s holding you back.

I’m also gonna tell you what you should be doing.

And so specifically we’re gonna talk about your business because you may say to yourself, “I want to be a full-time influencer, or I want to be a coach, a consultant. I wanna sell product services, cor uh, courses or whatever.” 

But here are the three things that I see and experience on a regular basis.

Whether it is in my personal life when I was first getting started or just trying to be consistent.

Or with some of the people that I coach in my programs, but also my V I P clients that are one-on-one.

So one of the first things that typically holds a person back is they don’t have a plan.

Is that “I want to do this, this is what I want to accomplish. I wanna make a million dollars by the end of next.” 

Great. It’s an amazing goal, right? And I love it when people set goals and say, “This is what I’m gonna do.”

But a lot of times people don’t actually consider or really think about a real plan on how to obtain that.

For example, I remember when someone had asked me, they say, “Well, in a perfect world, how much money are you making by the end of next year?” I said “3 million dollars.”

And he said, “Okay, so you’ve made 400,000 this past year. How are you gonna go from 400,000 to 3 million?”

And I said, “Well, you said in a perfect world.”

 He said, “No, I meant more realistic.”

And I was like, “Oh, okay. Well, in a perfect world, I would love to hit 550 or even 750 since I did 4.”

 And he said, “Okay, that’s a great goal. Do you have a plan to be able to get from where you are, to where you’re trying to go?”

No, I don’t.

He said, “So first things first, you gotta build a plan.”

So there’s a book that I read years ago, which is called The UH, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey.

And one of the first chapters in his book is begin with the end in mind

Now, I am so sold on this concept that in my book, before you quit your job, my number one first chapter is “begin with the end in mind.”

And of course, I like reference Stephen Covey.

I’m not like plagiarizing. But I talk about beginning with the end in mind, and so it’s if the goal in your business is to make a hundred thousand dollars by the end of this year.

Then you go, “Okay, it’s a hundred thousand dollars!”

How much money do I have to make each month to make a hundred thousand dollars?

Well, it’s right around $8,333. Okay.  I know. You’re like, “how’d you do that?”

It’s right around $8,333 per month to get to a hundred thousand dollars for the year.

So if that’s the thing, then we have to go, “How in the month of March, April, May, June, July, how are we gonna generate $8,333 per month?”

What are the products and services that we are gonna sell in order to do that?

Then once you figure that out, then you gotta develop this as a strategic plan on how to actually do that.

Which brings me to my second point is a strategy.

So it’s not just like, I gotta go from this to this, to this, to this.

But now it is “What is my strategy to not only enact this plan, but also hit this goal.”

So when we go back to the $8,333 you make per month to get to a hundred thousand dollars, then you have to go, “Okay. If that’s what I have to do”

 Right now is April, 2023. Let’s just say you wanna make  $8,300 in May.

Then you have to go, “All right, in May, what are the products and services that I’m gonna sell?”

Then you have to determine “How am I going to sell these products and services.”

Are you gonna do them through paid ads? Are you gonna do a webinar?

Are you gonna do email? Is it gonna be courses, is it gonna be consulting, is it gonna be live training?

Are you gonna do some type of brand partnerships?

What is your strategic plan of getting to $8,333?

But we also have it to where we do what we call a “launch only twice a year”.

Where it’s not only that digital course, but it’s also working with me every single day for two months.

Right where you have the course and you have me live and all the things. For two straight months.

And so when we are offering that twice a year, we have a plan like, “Here is our goal. We wanna sell these, many of these courses, this mastermind.”

So then we go, okay, what are the ways and steps that we’re able to do this?

We do webinars. We have paid ads. We have lots of graphics. We have emails. We do lots of short form video marketing. We have affiliates. We use chatbots through services, like many chat. We have our text message system

 All the things in order to be able to, to, to, to be strategic with that particular plan.

It’s really important for you to go, “Okay, yes, I’m trying to hit $8,000 or 8,300 in the month of May, and I wanna sell A, B, and C.”

But ask yourself, what is your plan? Have you created a strategic plan?

Now you may also be saying, “Well, no, like I don’t know, and I don’t know how to.”

Well listen, if that is the case, listen, I’m your girl.

So first you gotta have a plan, and then second, you gotta have a strategy.

And honestly, here, this third one is the biggest reason why people don’t have the success they wanna have.

Why? Why are they held back?

And it’s because of consistency.

It’s because people just aren’t consistent.

We are not consistently doing the thing, even when no one is looking, that we’re not consistently doing a thing, even when we feel tired.

I’ll just throw myself under the bus. One of my things has been that I wanted to grow my hair long, like really long, and while I wash my hair on a regular basis, I style my hair on a regular basis.

I’m not intentional about going to the salon and having my ends trimmed.

I’m not intentional about giving my scalp what it needs all the time and I’m just not extremely intentional and consistent with all the things I need to be doing for my hair to want to grow.

Or it could just be weight loss, right?

So I’ve been on the journey of weight loss or what have you.

My number problem is consistency.

And it’s not just consistency going to the gym, it’s consistently eating the things that my body needs at 40,.

Because what worked for me when I was 20 and 30 does not really work for me because of hormones and all that at 40.

So I have to be consistent with the things that my body needs as a 41 year old woman.

And so I’m not getting the results that I want and I’m being held back with my fitness goal because of a lack of consistency. 

I teach people TikTok marketing strategies and one of the things that I see that happens with a lot of our clients is they are consistent for a little while and then they drop.

And maybe it’s because they’re not having the fast success they want to have happen, or it’s because they just did not prioritize being consistent with the platform.

I know you can relate.

You got the things right.

So if you’re gonna be successful.

If you’re gonna hit your goals, whether that’s life goals, that’s your business goals, whatever it is, you gotta make sure that you, one, develop a plan, two, have a strategy, and three, you’ve gotta be consistent.

But I promise you this, you can do this.

Like if we look at so many people who are incredibly successful, it is just because they made a decision.

Not because they made a decision one time, but they made it again and again and again, and again and again.

And so today. This is your moment to decide.

I am gonna make a decision to not be holding my own self back anymore.

And you’re gonna develop a plan, a strategy, and be consistent.

3 Things Holding Your Business Back

Having success in your business or even in your life is gonna take a couple of different things. And a lot of times, what we do is we want

Fear is so paralyzing.

I mean, fear will keep you from doing anything.

Everything.

I have had so many moments where fear has had me in a choke hold. 

I know that sounds funny, but it is true!

And you know exactly what I’m talking about.

In this article I’m gonna talk about, asking yourself the question “Is fear what’s holding you back?”

This is not the most fun subject, we’re talking about fear, but it is a subject that we all deal with or have dealt with.

I have dealt with fear and I deal with fear all the time.

I have a really big, bold personality, and this is a God-given personality.

This is just how I was created.

I didn’t make myself this way.

And because I have this personality, so many people think that that means I don’t have fear, and I think that people tend to say “big personalities and fear don’t coexist”.

Like a person can’t have a big personality and not deal with fear.

That’s not true. We all deal with fear.

Recently, I spoke at a conference called Social Media Marketing World.

I think there may have been 700-800 people in the room. Before I got there, I was nervous, and I’m always nervous before I speak.

I warn everybody. I warn the person that’s gonna walk me to the room.

I warn the makeup artist. I warn everybody just like I am dealing with fear because I get nervous before I speak.

But people think that the concept of that does, does not compute.

But what I wanna say to you today is that everybody deals with fear. Everyone!

However, there’s one thing to have fear and that paralyzes you and keeps you from achieving your goals.

And there’s another thing to have fear and choose to operate in spite of it. 

And me, I am the one that says, “I feel the fear” and I’m gonna tell you that I feel the.

But also, I am going to keep going because on the other side of this fear, there is something.

So I’ll give you lots of examples.

One, when I spoke at Social Media Marketing World.

Two, I am getting ready to have invasive surgery cuz I have some growths in my uterus and so I gotta have invasive surgery.

I have some fear around going under, being cut open, and then waking up in pain.

There’s fear around that.

When I found out that my ex-husband was being unfaithful, I had fear about leaving.I had fear around staying. I had fear around what were people gonna say? I had fear around whether I ever met someone, anyone.

All of that was happening.

I am still going to have my surgery because I can’t have gross stuff happening in my stomach.

I still chose to leave my ex-husband. Because he was being unfaithful and wasn’t changing.

And I am still believing that I am gonna meet someone who’s gonna be a beautiful human being, who is going to love me in all of my ways right now.

 Do I have some fears about going under?

Yes.

Did I have fears about not meeting anybody ever again?

Yes. 

Do I have some fears around what is it gonna be like with this person? Will he hurt me or whatever?

Yes.

All those are there, but I care more about the possibility of the good things that could happen.

So, Right now, when I think about where I was when I first started my business back when I first got into entrepreneurship, this was back in 2002.

I was recruited into a network marketing organization called Prepaid Legal. It’s called Legals Shield Today.

And I had some fears around joining the company becauseI had heard network marketing was a pyramid scheme and all this stuff had fear around it.

I didn’t know it was fear, but I had fears around it.

Then as I started building a business and building a team, the person that had recruited me, told me that I was gonna have to learn how to do the presentation.

Like, how to get up in front of a crowd of people, talk about the product, service, and talk about the business.

I was gonna have to do all those things and I was like, “I am going to butcher this. This is going to be a nightmare on Elm Street!”

I was scared, but he pushed me and he pushed me and he pushed me and I was afraid.

But when I think about that time in my life, if I had said, “I am never gonna do this!”, then guess what?

I would not be doing what I’m doing today, like on YouTube, on the podcast speaking, the social media marketing world.

I wouldn’t be doing any of what I am doing today, had I stayed there.

And had I not started my first business back in network marketing.

There is no way that I would ever even think of or dream of being able to start my own business.

Leaving my corporate job that was paying me six figures and thinking that I can sell products and services to people I’ve never met on the internet.

Just think about that.

Leaving a corporate job, paying me six figures to start a business, to teach people about marketing, TikTok, marketing strategy and all that to people on the internet that we have never met.

So every time I look at these opportunities to be afraid, I’m like, “Oh yeah, that’s real. I feel that that’s very real.”

I am not excited about the possibility of where this could go, like the negative side of it.

I am not excited about the possibility of how bad this could go, but I am more so excited about the possibility of where this could go from a positive standpoint.

So as you read this article, I want you asking yourself this question.

What is actually happening with you?

What are things that are happening in your life right now that you feel fear around?

Yours may be getting into a relationship or leaving a relationship.

Yours may be choosing to have kids.

Yours may be about starting a business or may be leaving your job or changing your job.

 

Yours could be on the journey of going to the gym to lose weight and get on this healthy journey.

It could be a lot of things.

I remember when I was afraid to cut off all my hair because years ago I used to have a relaxer. And so my hair was straight. I would use a chemical that would straighten my hair and all that.

So the thought of trying to see what my hair looked like, natural, what I had fear around it, I was like, “I’m gonna look so ugly.

I had so much fear around it.

But I had these moments when my hair was starting to grow out from the relaxer, I would kind of look at my scalp and I would say, well, I wonder “Is my hair pretty underneath it?” 

I had so much fear around it being ugly that it kept me from actually going through the process of what we call going natural. 

When I finally did cut my hair off, I felt like I was ugly.

But I just kept going on the journey to let’s just keep on with this process.

Let’s just keep trying this and like this product and let’s just keep trying this whole journey and seeing, and so now today, I love my hair.

I mean, I just love my cute little hair.

I get so many compliments on my hair and this is my hair. This is how my hair is. 

And so on the other side of fear of what I was gonna look like or people judging me.

Here I am today, loving my hair and everywhere I go I get compliments about, “Wow, I love your hair. I just love your hair.” I get it all the time.

From men, women, boys, girls.

I get compliments from so many people saying, you’re so fearless. I’m like, “No, no, no. I’m not fearless. I’m just doing this in spite of fear.”

I get so many compliments of, “Look at you Keenya, like the cards have never been stacked for you.”

Never, not from birth. My mom, dad, never.

And I’m like, “Yeah, thank you for encouraging me.”

I just need you to know that I wasn’t always here, and every day I am just going on this journey, even through the emotions and fears and hesitancies and all the things that I feel.

I keep going.

The reason why I’m saying it’s all about me, is because you’re listening to me and, and you’re thinking about yourself.

When was the last time that you looked at the thing that you feared the most?

And you said, “Okay. On the other side of this fear, there may be a blessing. So let me go for it.”

I’m not telling you to go jump off a bridge. That’s not wisdom.

But on the other side of saying, “Hey, you know what? I’m gonna start baking these cakes and I’m gonna try to sell them at a bake sale.”

“I’m gonna try to sell them at the next event and see how this goes.”

Or “I’m actually gonna start a YouTube channel. And I’m just gonna start creating videos. I don’t know where this is gonna go, but I’m gonna start it,”

“I’m gonna try to do a podcast or I’m gonna start an account on TikTok. And I am just gonna see where this goes.”

Whatever the feelings you have. “I’m ugly. I sound terrible. Nobody’s gonna like me, nobody’s gonna buy my cake. Nobody.”

Those things are what you’re feeling and still moving forward anyway.

When is the last time that you have decided to do that?

If it’s been a while, then here we are. Right now you’re reading this article. Whatever you feel as you listen to me, I want you going “Okay. What is that one thing that I keep saying?”

What is that one thing, that one small thing that is like you got fear around it and you just have not done it because of the fear that you have around it? What is it?

Think about it.

Write it down.

And what I want you to do is write down what are the possibilities.

What are the bad possibilities that could happen, and what are the good possibilities that could happen?

And then even though you can feel and sense and all that about the bad and the good, I want you to take a step in the direction of the good.

So if it’s starting a podcast, then I want you to choose a podcast name.

If it is starting a YouTube channel, create the channel.

I want you to start going in that direction.

Because here’s the deal. You’re gonna feel fear throughout the entire process.

When I got up on stage at Social Media Marketing World, I told the crowd, “Man, I forgot what I was gonna say. I’m so nervous”

I said it to 800 people.

And people were just like, okay.

And then I kept going with my talk,

And then the people who booked me to speak in Europe were like, “You are awesome.”

Another company came along and said, “I saw your talk. It was awesome. We wanna fly you to Texas.”

No one has said anything about the fact that I said I’m nervous.

Nobody.

Cuz they were like, “This is awesome.”

I feel like people related to me when I said that, it was like, “Oh, she is just like us.”

You know what I’m saying?

And I’m speaking in LA next week and I may feel nervous there as well.

If I feel it, I’m gonna say it cuz it’s gonna loosen me up and it’s gonna loosen up the crowd. 

So that’s it for this week’s article “Is fear keeping you back from achieving your goals.”

We’re not gonna stay on this side of fear.

We’re gonna go to the other side of fear, because I guarantee you, in 30 days, 90 days, 365 days, you’re gonna look back and be like…

“Look at me. Look at how far I’ve come. Because I felt fear, but I’ve moved forward anyway.”

EP: 203 Is fear keeping you from achieving your goals

Fear is so paralyzing. I mean, fear will keep you from doing anything. Everything. I have had so many moments where fear has had me in a choke hold. 

If you’re not using short form video to build your business, this article is for you.

Let’s talk about the fastest way to be able to grow your business on social media right now.

Now, I know you already know this. I know you already know that TikTok, Instagram reels, Pinterest idea pens, YouTube shorts, and Facebook reels are out there.

But what you don’t know is how many people were sort of kinda invisible before they started creating short form video content.

And here’s what you need to understand.

So the average attention span of a person right now is 8 to 11 seconds.

If I wasn’t counting and had a whole thing I was talking about here, you would’ve gone away because the average attention span is 8 to 11 seconds.

And so when we are trying to build a business online, we’re trying to get people to know that we exist, know that our products and services exist.

Then we have to create content or market to them in a way where they can receive it, where they will actually see what it is that we have to offer.

This is why, if you notice that commercials have gotten shorter.

They’ve gotten more creative, they’ve got lots of different movements in them because of our short attention span.

And so if you are starting out building a business online, or you already have a business for a while and you’re saying to yourself, “I wanna market my business and one of the ways that I wanna market my business is social media.”

Now you need to be using short form video. 

Now let me explain something to you.

So I have some friends of mine who have been testing out what happens when they take their short form videos they created for TikTok and for Instagram reels and putting them on Facebook reels.

The results are insane. One of my friends just grew to over 300,000 followers on Facebook.

Why?

Because Facebook reels are short bite size pieces of content.

Just like Instagram reels, YouTube shorts, and TikTok, that people can digest and learn more about you, who you are and what it is you do and what it is you have to offer.

Now, I also just had a client meeting earlier today with someone who is a comedian.

She does tour stand up comedy and all the things, and what she was telling me was that, she has watched some of her friends who were on tour with her the same as her, who nobody knew who they are.

And they started creating bite size pieces of content on TikTok and have exploded with millions of followers.

So now there are selling out stadiums and all this stuff.

All because they started to build  brands with small pieces of content.

Now here’s something I want you to know about you, us, and then your potential.

Think about it this way, if you are, let’s just say you’re scrolling on YouTube, or you’re scrolling on Facebook and you’re scrolling.

You’re just there mindlessly doing whatever it is you’re doing to be entertained.

And you come upon this video and this video says something that is appealing to you because the person has created a piece of content that is directed at you.

So they’ve thought about their hook, they’ve thought about all these different things before they ever, you know, created the video.

So then you know you’ve got, like, this video is, let’s just say it’s 30 seconds.

Well, now they’ve got your attention with the, probably the first opening line in their video, which could be one to two seconds in their video, and then they’re keeping you there.

Let’s just say 30 seconds because they are serving you a piece of content, something that you are interested in.

It could be comedy, it could be a cat or a dog video.

It could be teaching you how to use short form video to build your brand or whatever it is, but the video was 30 seconds.

You didn’t have to stay there for five minutes, 10 minutes, 20, 30 an hour.

You got something from them within 30 seconds.

The average person, if they enjoyed what they got from you, right?

Some people will scroll away and say, “Oh, that was good.”

Some people will hit like on the video or they may write a comment on the video.

Some people will then go and click on your page and see who you are and what it is you have to offer.

They may then scroll and watch more of your short pieces of content.

And then some of them may also go and click on the link in your bio and then go, “Oh, this person can actually help me with A, B, C, D, E, L, G,” whatever.

But ultimately, the reason why they were able to make any kind of like action, whether it’s liking, comment, clicking on your profile following whatever is because you were able to capture their attention with this small bite size piece of content.

So, so often I will find myself, I’ll come on to TikTok or even Instagram after being off all day long.

I posted a video earlier and I’ll come on and I’ll have hundreds of notifications, and the reason why I have so many notifications is because somebody saw a video of mine.

They liked what they saw.

They clicked on my profile.

And they kept watching other videos, video after video, after video, after video, after video, because that first video captured their attention.

And now they wanna know more about me, more about what it is that I do, and to see how I can help them more.

Because I teach people how to market, market their businesses online.

So the reason why someone is able to binge watch my content, is because I’m creating short form video marketing.

So there’s so many people.

For instance, right now, not TikTok, but Chipotle has a new offer in their mobile app where you can get the Chicken El Pastor, which is their chicken with a certain type of seasoning and pineapple.

And it’s available only in the app, on the app store.

Well, the reason why they have that is because of what has happened on TikTok and people were creating little bite size pieces of content around Chipotle and got connected to Keith.

And now they have what’s called the Keithadilla.

And there’s a whole thing that is going on through Chipotle because of these small bite size pieces of content.

But also what happened was that when Keith started talking about Chipotle and the way that he eats it, millions of people.

So it’s all this, and then they all ran to Chipotle and started to eat this quesadilla.

Now, I’ve never had a Chipotle quesadilla, but I really wanna go and get it now because

everybody is talking about it because I’m seeing these small bite sized pieces of content.

Talk about Chipotle. Okay? So it doesn’t matter what it is that you sell, whether you are a comedian, whether you have a cat or dog business, whether you have a cat or dog personality.

Or you’re selling, you know, basket weaving or sewing or whatever, right? Whatever your thing is. 

If you start using short form video and creating bite size pieces of content, you’re gonna find yourself growing a lot faster, especially as an online brand like you’re following and all that.

Which will then lead to growing your email list, because hopefully you are building an email list using social media, and then you’re gonna be able to convert these leads into actual paid customers.

A lot faster.

Building a brand with short form video

If you’re not using short form video to build your business, this article is for you. Let’s talk about the fastest way to be able to grow your business

 Hiring a virtual assistant is the best thing that I did for my life and for my business. 

I didn’t even know all of what I was doing until I hired a virtual assistant. But I have to say this was not an easy journey. 

This was not an easy journey because I was so used to doing everything the way that I was doing it.

Not to mention, I was like, “How in the world do I hire? How do I pay for one and all the things” 

So I talked about how hiring a virtual assistant changed my entire life. But the first part of this article is gonna talk about how difficult it was to even get to the process.

When you have always had a job your entire life, all you know how to do is have a job.

You have no idea how to hire a person, how to find people, and then in your mind, you’re thinking about the salary that you’ve always been paid or whatever.

And you’re just like, “How in the world am I ever gonna afford to hire somebody part-time or full-time to help me when I don’t even know what I’m doing or whatever”

And so honestly, it took me a really long time before I ever hired my first virtual assistant. 

I didn’t hire my first person to assist me until the end of 2021. And I’ve been doing this for way too long that I care to admit.

Just being honest. 

But I’m glad that I did. 

And so, here is how, I wanna give you all the steps on how to hire your first virtual assistant. 

So the first thing you have to do is you have to determine, who are you hiring and why are you hiring them?

So are you hiring them to be a generalist virtual assistant, or do you want them to be your executive assistant? 

Your right, left hand. It’s like they’re in everything with you, on all the things, or you just give them tasks to do.

And the reason is because like when you are writing your job description and you’re thinking about the salary and all those things, you have to think about, “What is it I’m really trying to get this person to do?” 

And how much are you gonna be paying them?

Okay. You may be saying to yourself, “Well, I don’t know!”.

So when I talked to a friend of mine a year ago, he had shared with me, he said, “Well, the first thing you have to do is determine what exactly do you want them to do? What do you need them to do?”

And I was like, “Well, I don’t really know”

And he said, “First thing I want you to do is make a list of all the things that you don’t do, do not like to do in your business.”

And I was like, “Isn’t it kind of mean?”

He said, “No, if you make a list of the things you don’t like to do, and then you create a job description around it, once you actually post that job on job boards, people are responding to that position because they like doing that stuff.

They have experience with that stuff, and they don’t feel like it’s you taking advantage of them or whatever, because they responded to the job posting.”

And so I said, “Well, I guess that makes sense.”

So I started making a list of all the things that I do.

First I made it. All that I do. And then I started just doing like checks by all the things that I just do not enjoy doing.

There were a lot of checks.

So as I was doing those checks, I said, Okay, so now it is important for me to go, like, now I’ve gotta write a job description for a virtual assistant.

I have never written a job description before. 

So I went to Dr. Google.

 And I was just, “job description for executive assistant executive virtual assistant.”

And so then I started reading a lot of the different people’s, like job descriptions they had posted on the internet. 

I didn’t copy anything like word to word, but I did use them as a guide.

 And it just really helped me from writing out this terrible, I mean, absolutely terrible job description by just already using what works and then making sense for me and my company.

Then I had to determine, how much would I be willing to pay?

And my honest answer was I did not know because I had never hired an assistant before.

So I just put that off to last.

I am familiar with being able to outsource things overseas because I had had my brand design business where all of my designers were in India and I had hired people in the Philippines, in Pakistan and all that.

And I said, okay, I know. upwork.com works, and I’m also very familiar with onlinejobs.ph.

Now, the thing that I do not like about onlinejobs.ph is you can post a job and you’ll get like 5,000 people to respond to a job posting, and they have not even read the job description.

It’s wild when I think about onlinejobs.ph.

But with upwork.com I know that I can set up my own profile and then I could post a job with all of my specifics that I want with that particular person.

Like social media management, like having to be fluent in English, having an 80% success rate with previous clients, how much money they’ve already made working on Upwork.

And I could ask them specific questions they have to answer before they ever respond to the job posting.

I like Upwork better.

So then I went over to Upwork, created a job posting for an executive virtual assistant

Then I pasted the thing that I wrote out as my job description.

Then when I did that, I went to, what level was I looking for? Looking for someone who was brand new, intermediate, or expert.

And I said, well, I really want someone who’s intermediate. They don’t have to be an expert.

So I did that and then it asked me like, how long do I want them to work for me?

And I was like, well, six months or longer or whatever.

Then it said, what countries? And I said, any country. 

And so once you get to like the next screen, it’s gonna ask you, is this an hourly pay or is this on a project basis?

Now here’s what happens when you click on hourly.

Upwork is gonna give you a range. It’s gonna say, here’s the range between what most people are being paid as an expert for an executive virtual assistant.

And so you’re gonna see a range. It could say $8 to $10, it could say $12 to $25, whatever.

But it still gives you a range.

And then you can choose on a low end this, on the high end this, and it gives you that range.

When we were doing that, I saw a range of like, some people were like $5 an hour all the way up to $12 an hour.

And so then I was like, “Well that sounds good to me.”

Because it’s actually not expensive at all for someone to really be assisting me with all these things that I do every single day in my business.

So then I posted the job and then now you start getting a lot of people responding to the job that are qualified.

From there, what I do is I understand that some people will be right, some people will not be qualified or whatever, or we just won’t gel well.

In an effort to maximize my time and not waste a lot of time with a lot of video call interviews.

Cuz listen, if you get a hundred people to respond, you cannot do interviews with everybody.

And Upward makes it a lot simpler because what you can do is once you see all the people that have responded to your job posting.

You can click on them and it will show you what they said when they responded to your job posting.

If you ask them specific questions, you can read the answer to the questions.

You can then look at all the success they’ve had on the platform.

You can read all their reviews and then you can begin having a conversation with them.

So what I do is I look at everybody that has applied to the job and I just start going through reading what they wrote.

If I like what I’ve seen so far, then I will click on the shortlist and that way it’s saying, “Hey, this person is on my short list to look back at.”

And then what I will do is I’ll have a list of questions that I wanna ask them in addition to what was in the job posting.

I would just say, “Hey, thank you so much for responding to our job posting. We have some additional questions for you.”

And so I send them another list of questions.

And then I just go through the process.

But also if I see people who I am not interested in, I will just hit the downlight button and that removes them from the job posting. 

That way, it’s constantly just updating to just those people I have reviewed and shortlisted or those new people that have responded to the particular job.

I’m literally asking everybody the same questions over and over and over again as they’re responding to the job posts.

I’m just asking them the same questions.

Once I narrow it down to like however many is left that I really enjoy.

Then I will go to schedule video calls because everybody that is great in Upwork writing is not great on video.

Some people are very intimidated, or they’re very introverted and they have a hard time articulating themselves or just being there with you on camera.

Someone as your executive assistant, they’re gonna be in some of your meetings with your team.

Then you wanna make sure that the person speaks fluent English because people may be able to write English but not be able to speak English, and you need to be able to speak to the person that is gonna be your main assistant.

And so we bring them on the video call and now we’re asking them even more questions. 

We’ve asked them a lot, but then we’re giving them even more.

We’re nice and kind about it, but this is gonna be a hire.

Someone who you’re gonna hire to work for you in your businesses. 

So we just kinda walked through that entire process with that person.

Once we narrow it down to the people we loved from that particular interview, those interviews, then we give them an assignment.

And we do a paid assignment.

So I will say, okay, here’s an assignment I have, and I’ll give it to five people and I’ll hire each person for one hour.

And I will say, it’ll be an assignment that I know they can do in an hour.

I won’t stretch their time limit, but it’s like what I know they can do.

And then once they have the assignment, I say, “I will pay you for an hour. When can you get this back to me?”

Then I’ll see whatever they say, they can get it back to me.

Fine.

And so then what happens is the people that actually met the deadline, we go and we review the work.

Once we get the work from them, then that’s when we are moving forward with who it is that we’re gonna offer a position to.

It may sound like a lot, but this is someone who is going to change your life.

They’re gonna change your business.

They’re gonna give you some of your time back.

Instead of you having to do a hundred thousand things now you get to do 50,000, they’re gonna do 50,000 and you’re gonna do 50,000.

So you’re still working and running your business, but you’re not doing a hundred thousand things, you’re only doing 50,000 things.

It’s definitely worth kind of going through this process of being able to hire someone.

But before you actually set a higher date for this person, it is so important that you have all the details laid out of what this person’s gonna do on day one. Okay?

Because when I first hired someone, I’ve tried to hire so many people and people have quit and all that.

 

And a lot of it has been because we weren’t ready

I didn’t have my stuff together.

I needed somebody, but I wasn’t ready for somebody.

And so it’s just really, really, really important that you know, you have it together of what it is this person is going to be doing.

And not only that, how you’re going to train them because your executive assistant or virtual assistant can do all the things you need them to do.

But if you don’t set them up for success by having a training plan without having a way, you’re gonna teach them about you, about your company, about all these different things.

You’re really setting them up for failure and you’re setting your business up for failure.

Which I have done too many times than I care to admit.

I’m ashamed to admit how many times I did this to really, really good people because I wasn’t ready.

But you know, you can get ready while you post the job and you’re waiting for people to respond.

Now I will say people are gonna start responding to that.

Almost instantly.

As long as it’s a good job and a good rate of pay, they’re gonna respond immediately.

So you don’t have to hire them immediately, but they are going to respond immediately.

So if you have not taken the lead, the chance to go and get yourself an executive assistant or a virtual assistant,

Then I would encourage you to start that process.

Because one of the things that I realized is that my business was gonna be limited to me if I’m the only person that was doing these in my business.

The business was going to be limited, but the moment I introduced other people to do other things was the moment that now I had more space.

More opportunity to do the things that actually make the company run smoother and bring in more revenue to the company.

How To Hire A Virtual Assistant?

 Hiring a virtual assistant is the best thing that I did for my life and for my business.  I didn’t even know all of what I was doing until

 TikTok is still the fastest way to be able to grow your audience, your reach, and your brand in 2023. 

I know we all have Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms. 

I love them and I use them, but TikTok is still the fastest way because of the behavior of people on TikTok. 

And in this article, I’m gonna give you the top 3 reasons why you should be using TikTok for your business right now. 

So first things first, it’s really important to understand that I am a business consultant before I got on TikTok. 

I’ve been in business for over 20 years. So I’ve been doing this thing for quite some time. 

And so when I’m giving you my opinion about TikTok, I’m not just saying this as a TikTok strategist, as a TikTok, or whatever.

I’m telling you this as a marketer and as a business. 

Now, here’s the thing, as a business, one of the number one things that we all need is traffic. 

We need people to know that we exist. And so that’s why a lot of us pay for traffic. We pay for ads and all that. 

I pay for ads too, but if you can also get it for free, you should be going to get that and this is why TikTok is the place to do it because the algorithm is learning your target customer right now.

They’re on TikTok right now searching, watching all different types of content, even if they only watch content about toilet paper. 

So what happens is that when you learn how to create content on the TikTok platform and you learn about your audience, or just bring what you already know about your audience to the platform, then TikTok is gonna start taking your content and showing it to those people.

So reason number one is because your competitor isn’t there. 

99% of business owners are still not marketing their businesses on TikTok. And so what that means for you is that if your competition isn’t there, then you’re the only pregame there. 

I’ve had so many of my clients that say I’m searching for people like me on TikTok and there’s nobody there, and they get upset about it. 

But you get to be the only game in town. 

If you’re constantly teaching people, for example about jewelry or you’re selling these types of necklaces and you’re the only one selling them, when you’ve got millions of people on this platform, then everybody’s gonna be coming for you.

You wanna corner the market now. 

You wanna become the market leader for what it is that you do on the TikTok platform. 

And so the number one reason is because your competitor is not there. And if you are there cornering the market, you. 

The second reason why TikTok is a place to be is because that is where most people are spending their time.

The data is out and it has all been said that people are spending more time on TikTok than they are on YouTube, on Google, on Facebook, or Instagram and even television. 

Yes, people are spending more time watching TikTok than White Lotus, Wednesday, Dahmer, or whatever your favorite shows. 

People are on TikTok. Why? Because they’re there being entertained, because TikTok is serving them up content that they know that they would be interested in.
