The Importance of Support System – Building Your Business Foundation

One of the biggest mistakes I made when building a business was not having any kind of systems.

I jumped online 10 years ago with the intention of making money so I didn’t have to work a job but I ended up working more hours for my business than I did on my job.

The number one reason why that was the case was because I didn’t have any systems in place.

Today, I want to share with you 4 different types of systems you need to have in place in your business so that you can run a really successful business and not just have a hobby or be led to burnout.

  1. Processes

This is the number one mistake I made in my business because I made a lot of money in the company but I had no systems or processes. Everything was in my head and when I decided to hire someone to help me, it was so painful. Because I had to get everything that was out of my head and on paper or in a video and then she had to begin to create processes around everything that we do.

I not only had to get everything out on video but she had to learn how I think, how I do what I do and instead of me being able to focus on the business for 6 months I had to focus on helping her with the processes she was creating.

  2. Job Descriptions – Internal & External

When it was time to hire my assistant and social media manager I had nothing to show for when it came to create a job description. I started using job descriptions online and when these people came into my team and weren’t doing what I wanted to do at first I blamed them. It took a while for me to realize that I had actually hired the wrong people because my job description was not according to what my actual needs were.

Then when I hired them I didn’t have an internal job description that would tell them what they need to do each day in their role. That caused a lot of frustration for me and the new team member as well as the existing ones. A lot of people quit working with us because we were so unorganized that I had to pause from hiring and get all of my job descriptions internal and external in place.

  3. Social Media Management System

This was a big one for us, because we teach social media to businesses. One of the big problems with this was because I am the consultant that teaches people’s social media and not only did I not have the job description, the internal or external one but I have the way that I like to do things and it was never created as a system. So we have had probably 15 to 20 different social media managers over the years that weren’t living up to our standard because we didn’t have the right job description and many other things. Because truth be told, everyone does social media differently and we have the way that we do things and so we needed to have some type of social media management system for the person that we were hiring

  4. Lead Capture

I’ve worked a lot of sales jobs. At every sales job I’ve ever had they’ve always had some type of system where they would capture leads and be able to recycle those leads year after year. But in my business I didn’t have any of that because I didn’t know how to create one. So it’s a huge mistake that I made when it came to building a business because I would have a lot of people I

would talk to but still wouldn’t follow up with them because I didn’t have a way to do it. So we had to build a lead capture system that would allow us to connect with people in person and online and be able to follow up with them seamlessly.

If you don’t have any of these systems in place in your business I would highly encourage you to start creating them. Whether you are a content creator, a solo business owner or you have a team of people you need to have these systems in place.

If you have any questions about this let me know in the comments.
